The Mentoring Program matches Upper Class Students with 1L students.
The goal of this program is to give our 1L Students at least one friendly face at school and a single
point of contact for any questions or help.
We all know that the first year of law school can be the most confusing and challenging time of our
entire law career.
We have found that in general, the 1L Students are looking for listeners, sounding boards, encouragers,
and people who are genuinely interested in helping them get through their first year of law school successfully.
Who better to help them than our own Upper Class Students? They have already ‘been there’
and so possess the priceless ability to help the 1Ls through this most difficult period of their law school career.
We do not expect nor do we encourage our Upper Class Students to become private tutors for the 1L Students.
SDK sponsors proctoring sessions to fill this need. However, if the 1L Students insists on private tutoring sessions then,
we recommend that our Upper Class Students steer them to any one of the professional private tutors that are out there in
the local market.
While we hope our Upper Class Students will be candid, we expect that they will project a positive
attitude about the school, the professors and school sponsored activities.
We are confident that not only will this Mentoring Program help our 1Ls to succeed, it will foster
friendship and comradeship among the Pacific Coast University School of Law community and promote the intellectual and professional
well being of all.
Have fun!
